Jesus will show up when we choose to pray until with have faith that will move mountains. He wants to see your dream come true – no matter how big. I know because I have dreams just like this. I know some of them are big…wild…I mean HUGE. We see the dreams we have come to pass when we pray…which helps produce faith in our hearts and minds. As I pondered this difference something dawned on me. This was the question I asked myself last week. “You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Jesus replied, “This kind can be cast out only by prayer.” -Mark 9:29 Interestingly, his response is not the same in Matthew as it is in Mark. Why not this time? So, in both Matthew and Mark, they ask their question of Jesus. Why couldn’t they cast that demon out? It seems based on their questions that this type of thing was something they had done before. The demon is cast out, and the father leaves with his dream fulfilled. Thankfully, Jesus arrives to save the day. We don’t know exactly what they’ve done, but they are unsuccessful. In the story Jesus is away when this father arrives with his son, so he asks the disciples to cast the demon out. It might be very direct (like healing, schooling, or success), or it could be indirect (your job, marriage, or house). I’m also betting your dreams revolve around your children. This father is desperate for his dream to come true. You can imagine the anguish and pain this causes this father. This demon is trying to kill his son by throwing him in water and fire.

His dream is for his son to be free of a demon. It’s the story of a father who has a dream. Last week, I read a story from both Mark and Matthew (Mark 9 & Matthew 17). You may know 3 of the 4 Gospels are called synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke) because they basically tell the same stories, but from slightly different perspectives. I’ve just begun the New Testament portion of this reading plan. This particular plan is in the order of how the events took place in history – not by chapter/verse order. This year I’m reading through a chronological Bible plan.

However for Napoleon it’s a promise fulfilled (Napoleon ends the hero & gets the girl). “If you vote for me, all your wildest dreams will come true.”

In his run for president, Pedro uses this classic line in his speech to the student body, How unnatural? Even while being in the lowest tier of popularity, Pedro runs for class president. One of the ways Napoleon finds his footing in school is following the example of Pedro, who has unnatural confidence. For those of you who haven’t seen the movie, it’s a story about a social outcast (Napoleon) who finds his place through two friends (Deb & Pedro). I find the mix of comic absurdity and sweet truths a great combination. One of my all-time favorite movies is Napoleon Dynamite.
